Why specify Viton / FKM for o-rings?

Viton® (fluorocarbon, FKM) exhibits the highest level of chemical resistance and offers the broadest range of chemical resistance in our O-ring inventory. Viton withstands a wider temperature range than most elastomers and resists gasoline swelling and UV / ozone deterioration.

Properties of Viton / FKM o-rings

Cannon Gasket cuts Viton / FKM o-rings to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of 60A to 90A Shore hardness. Broadest chemical resistance of any elastomer, fuels, acids, oils, aromatics, chlorinated solvents, and hydraulic fluids. Not recommended for ketones, esters, or amines.

Viton / FKM tolerances and customization

Standard dimensional tolerances on Viton / FKM o-ringsland around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on select grades. Cannon Gasket cuts Viton / FKM to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.

How Viton O-Rings Perform

- Continuous service from -20°F to +400°F (compound dependent). - Resistant to fuels, oils, solvents, ozone, UV, and a broad range of aggressive chemicals. - Lower compression set than Buna-N in oil and fuel service. - Durometers from 60 to 90 Shore A available.

AS568 Standard Sizes and Custom

Stocked in AS568 dash numbers across the standard size range. Custom IDs / ODs / cross-sections and color-coded compounds available on request.

Where Viton O-Rings Are Specified

Aviation fuel systems, automotive high-performance fuel and engine, chemical processing, semiconductor process tools, oil and gas exploration hardware, refinery components.

When to Choose Another Material

For oil-only contact at moderate temperature, Nitrile is more economical. For water / steam / outdoor service, EPDM. For ketones and esters, Viton is incompatible.
