Why specify Viton / FKM for rubber washers?

Viton® (fluorocarbon, FKM) rubber washers handle the chemical and thermal extremes that lower-grade elastomers cannot. Cannon Gasket die-cuts custom Viton washers for aviation fuel systems, chemical processing, semiconductor equipment, and oil and gas exploration hardware where service life under aggressive exposure matters more than unit cost. Available in commercial, high-grade, Extreme Viton, and FDA grades.

Properties of Viton / FKM rubber washers

Cannon Gasket cuts Viton / FKM rubber washers to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of 55A to 90A Shore hardness. Petroleum fuels, oils, acids, aromatics, chlorinated solvents, and hydraulic fluids. Self-extinguishing. Not recommended for ketones, esters, or amines.

Viton / FKM tolerances and customization

Standard dimensional tolerances on Viton / FKM rubber washersland around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on select grades. Cannon Gasket cuts Viton / FKM to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.

How Viton Performs in Washer Applications

- Broadest chemical resistance in our standard elastomer inventory. - Excellent resistance to fuels, oils, solvents, ozone, and UV. - Lower compression set than Buna-N over long service life.

When Another Material Is the Better Specification

For oil-only contact at moderate temperature, Buna-N (more economical). For water / steam / outdoor service, EPDM.
