PTFE (Teflon®) Plastic Washers
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, sold under brand names like Teflon®) offers the broadest chemical resistance and one of the lowest coefficients of friction available in a machinable plastic. Cannon Gasket die-cuts and CNC machines custom PTFE washers for chemical processing, semiconductor, food and beverage, and high-temperature electrical applications. Available as virgin PTFE per AMS 3652 and ASTM D3308, plus glass-, moly-, graphite-, and bronze-filled grades, expanded PTFE, and PFA.

Properties of PTFE plastic washers
Cannon Gasket cuts PTFE plastic washers to your drawing. Virtually inert to all chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases. FDA compliant. Lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material.
PTFE tolerances and customization
Standard dimensional tolerances on PTFE plastic washers land around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material thickness and profile. Tighter tolerances are available on selected grades. Cannon Gasket cuts PTFE to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.
How PTFE Performs
- Inert to virtually all chemicals — broadest chemical resistance of any plastic. - Coefficient of friction comparable to ice on ice. - Excellent electrical insulator across the full temperature range. - Available in virgin (FDA), glass-filled, bronze-filled, and carbon-filled grades.
Common Washer Applications
Chemical processing pump and valve isolators, semiconductor process tool washers, food and beverage processing (virgin / FDA grade), cryogenic test rigs, high-voltage electrical insulators, low-friction bearing washers, and corrosion-resistant flange isolators.
Filled vs Virgin PTFE
- Virgin PTFE — maximum chemical resistance and lowest friction. FDA-compliant. Lower load-bearing. - Glass-filled (15–25%) — better wear resistance and creep resistance. - Carbon-filled — improved wear and lower thermal expansion.
When to Choose Another Material
For high load-bearing without chemical contact, Delrin (Acetal) is stiffer at lower cost. For high mechanical strength at temperature, PEEK.
Manufacturing Methods
Die-cut for thin-gauge PTFE sheet (skived film), compound-die-cut for tight tolerance, and CNC-machined to ±.0005 for thicker stock and complex geometries.
PTFE grades and materials
Available as virgin PTFE per AMS 3652 and virgin PTFE per ASTM D3308, glass-filled PTFE, moly-filled PTFE, graphite-filled PTFE, expanded PTFE, and PFA. PTFE is chemically inert, with a low coefficient of friction, superior electrical insulating properties, and a melting point over 600F.
Manufacturing, finishing & stocking
Precision & tooling: Capable of holding tolerances as tight as ±.001" on critical dimensions when required, beyond the ±0.010" to ±0.015" standard. Short- and long-run capabilities, with an extensive in-house tooling inventory for rapid turnaround.
Clean room: Cannon Gasket offers clean-environment stamping for medical, FDA, electronic, and scientific applications where a controlled level of particulate is required, with capabilities to meet ISO Class 10,000.
Stocking agreements: Blanket orders, VMI (vendor-managed inventory), JIT (just-in-time), and Kanban replenishment programs.
Pad printing: Pad print your part number, identification marking, or company name in a range of ink colors. Marking per customer specifications or MIL-STD-130.
Packaging: Parts are bagged and tagged in specified quantities and labeled with P/N or any required information. Capability to meet specific packaging and labeling requirements.
