EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is the elastomer of choice when the gasket is exposed to water, steam, weather, or ozone. Cannon Gasket die-cuts custom EPDM gaskets for plumbing, irrigation, HVAC, outdoor lighting, and pool and spa applications where UV, sunlight, and water are part of the service environment. Properties of EPDM gaskets
Cannon Gasket cuts EPDM gaskets to your specifications in durometers ranging form 10A to 90A Shore hardness. Excellent resistance to ozone, UV, sunlight, water, steam, and brake fluid.
EPDM tolerances and customization
Standard dimensional tolerances on EPDM gaskets land around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on selected grades. Cannon Gasket cuts EPDM to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.
How EPDM Performs in Water, Steam, and Outdoor Service
- Superior resistance to ozone, UV, and sunlight (no surface cracking over years of outdoor exposure). - Excellent water and steam resistance. - Good resistance to mild acids, alkalis, ketones, and alcohols. - Available in sulfur-cured (standard) or peroxide-cured (lower compression set, better high-temperature performance).
Where EPDM Gaskets Are Specified
Outdoor enclosures, irrigation valve seals, pool and spa equipment, HVAC components, plumbing flange gaskets, weatherstripping, brake-system seals (compatible with brake fluid), and any application that combines water exposure with sunlight or ozone.
When EPDM Is the Wrong Choice
EPDM is not compatible with petroleum oils, fuels, or greases. For oil or fuel contact, specify Buna-N or Viton. For high-temperature petroleum service, Viton.
Manufacturing Methods
Die-cut, rotary-cut for high-volume runs, steel-rule-cut for large or soft formats, lathe-cut from EPDM tube when thickness exceeds sheet stock. PSA backing and clean room production available.
Standard sizes, tolerances & manufacturing
Precision & tooling: Capable of holding tolerances as tight as ±.001" on critical dimensions when required, beyond the ±0.010" to ±0.015" standard. Short- and long-run capabilities. All parts available with pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) on one or two sides.
Clean room: Cannon Gasket offers clean-environment stamping for medical, FDA, electronic, and scientific applications where a controlled level of particulate is required, with capabilities to meet ISO Class 10,000.
Stocking agreements: Blanket orders, VMI (vendor-managed inventory), JIT (just-in-time), and Kanban replenishment programs.
Pad printing: Pad print your part number, identification marking, or company name in a range of ink colors. Marking per customer specifications or MIL-STD-130.
Packaging: Parts are bagged and tagged in specified quantities and labeled with P/N or any required information. Capability to meet specific packaging and labeling requirements.
